Historic milestone in sustainable forest management – 3 million ha in progress towards FSC certification

Today another 10 Indonesian forest concessions, all from Kalimantan, joined The Borneo Initiative and accepted a support package for FSC certification of their forest management.

PT Narkata Rimba obtains FSC certificate

On the 16th of August 2011 the Concession of PT Narkata Rimba, East Kalimantan, obtained the FSC certification.

PT Hanurata signs the support agreement

PT Hanurata has signed a support agreement and joined Group 4.

Formation of Group 4 will be closed by November 2011.

Pt Suka Jaya Makmur awarded with first FSC certificate!

Congratulations to PT Suka Jaya Makmur for obtaining the FSC-certificate for sustainable forest management of ± 170,000 hectare of natural tropical forest.

In addition to accelerating forest certification in Indonesia, The Borneo Initiative focuses on increasing market links between participating Indonesian concessionaires and Dutch (European) timber buyers. From the start in 2008 the Indonesian office of The Borneo Initiative is located within the premises of WWF Indonesia's main office in Jakarta (Kawasan Mega Kuningan). As of August 1st, 2011 The Borneo Initiative will be moving along to their WWF's new office location in Jakarta (Selatan).
